EBMT NEWSLETTER | November 2016 | Volume 54 - Issue 5

Important dates
This is our last EBMT Newsletter for the year 2016, which represented a new course for our society driven by energy and verve, and investment in innovation and change. As previously communicated to you on several occasions, with your support and that of a wonderful crew of devoted people working very hard, EBMT is determined to create new directions for the future, making it stronger, more competitive, and becoming a benchmark scientific and medical society.
Today, EBMT is very proud to play a key role in the scientific and medical community, helping to give our field a global outlook, providing access to major educational events, such as the newly introduced “International transplant course”, held in Barcelona in September 2016. The EBMT registry upgrade project (“project 2020”) is now back on the right track, and you will hear some great news by early 2017.
You will, no doubt, have also noticed that the preparations for the #EBMT17 Annual Meeting to be held in Marseille (25-29 March, 2017) are accelerating. Please do not forget the abstract submission deadline on the 11th of December 2016. The 2017 Annual Meeting will ensure a very special atmosphere. It is fantastic to see the high level of the scientific program, including some special sessions tackling the hottest challenges we are facing today. In addition to the top invited experts, the 2017 Annual Meeting will be bursting with junior colleagues submitting the best of their work and research.
We, at EBMT, also believe in the “academia-pharma” strong partnership for the good of our field, because a successful medical society should pay a prominent role in supporting collaborative projects and pioneering initiatives. Such collaboration will soon lead to the launch of the first international cellular therapy registry, which will allow us to closely monitor a new era of therapies, as part of our commitment to advancing this field, especially when it comes to patients’ safety and long-term follow-up. Please stay tuned for more information in the next few months.
The distinguished position of EBMT would not have been complete without our ongoing efforts and integration with patients, donors and their advocacy groups.
Last, but not least, a society’s excellence is not only measured by achieved objectives. It is also judged by our capacity to understand our members’ demands while working with them far from the limelight. The EBMT promises to keep playing this role all year around.
While all of us are getting ready for the end of the year Seasons Holidays, the EBMT fleet is running at full tilt, and you can, as usual, count on my energy. It is always an honour and a pleasure to serve EBMT and its members!
In the meantime, please do not forget to follow the EBMT news on Twitter @TheEBMT and @Mohty_EBMT.
Take care.
