Dear friends and colleagues,
The beautiful Spring and Summer days are ahead. Thank you all for being loyal to the EBMT. Your support is of the utmost importance for the success of the Society. After my first presidency year, my contacts with many of you and your constructive suggestions and criticisms have reassured me of the value you place on EBMT. Thus, I am happy to pass on the good news that we have achieved a highly successful 2015 Annual Meeting in Istanbul. Many ambitious goals were nicely implemented and there are already many exciting developments to look back upon, and more to look forward to during the next years.
The EBMT Annual Meeting has been taken into new heights with new features and the latest advances presented by international leaders. All the new features that we have introduced (e.g., 'Meet the expert', ‘Social media’, or 'How I do' sessions) were met with great enthusiasm, and were highly rated in the post-congress survey.
EBMT is proud to be a global transplant, cellular therapy and haematology society as we continue to deliver cutting edge education and research for the benefit of all patients. EBMT is also the only medical society tackling issues related to nursing, quality management and cell processing. The 9th Patient,Family and Donor Day was also a very special moment, when we could meet with great men and women who bravely fought some terrible diseases, but also very generous stem cell donors who saved the lives of many others. The Istanbul meeting was full of excitement and novelties allowing for strong interactions, but also warm friendship. Hosted in a very functional and well-managed venue, it offered unique opportunities for the so-called 'corridor networking': those spontaneous or pre-arranged informal meetings with old and new colleagues, which provide a constant source of ideas for further consultation and collaboration. Such spirit was strongly reinforced and highlighted at the official 'Networking Reception' on the last evening of the conference.
This month, we are starting the preparations for the EBMT 2016 Annual Meeting, which will be held in Valencia, Spain, from the 3rd to the 6th of April 2016. This meeting will showcase another impressive number of new features and great sessions, reflecting the huge surge in progress over the last few years. Thus, 2016 will be an especially momentous year for EBMT, and we look forward to continually taking the membership experience to new heights, and to making new contacts with colleagues along the way. In EBMT, we recognise the challenge and are committed to developing more effective care and practice-changing discoveries for malignant and non malignant haematological diseases.
