Dear friends and colleagues,
This Newsletter is reaching you a few days before the EBMT 2015 Annual Meeting to be held in Istanbul. At this stage, I can assure you that we continue to make great strides with the organisation of what is promising to be a memorable meeting.
As you may have noticed, the 2015 scientific content will actually start as early as Saturday 21st March, with a new concept of “How do I do?” sessions dedicated to tackle some practical issues that we encounter in our daily practice.
On Sunday 22nd, thanks to the great support of our Pharma partners and sponsors, you will be able to enjoy a number of top quality satellite symposia followed by the opening ceremony. This year’s opening lecture will be focused on the emerging and rapidly growing role of the microbiome in medicine, with special applications in the field of stem cell transplantation.
Furthermore, we are the only international stem cell transplant and haematology society to organise a nursing scientific and educational program, in parallel to the physicians’, thanks to the active and hard work of the EBMT Nurses Group. The Patient and Family Day is also currently expanding to include stem cell donors’ issues.
Concomitant with the Istanbul Annual Meeting upcoming events, EBMT continues to have a busy research agenda. A new call for prospective trials will be launched shortly by the EBMT clinical trials office. A couple of (hopefully) cutting-edge practice-changing trials will be selected. Please stay tuned for more information.
Last, but not least, EBMT working parties continue to publish state of the art retrospective studies and reviews. Of note, the board of the society recently decided to make all EBMT guideline and recommendation manuscripts freely accessible (“open access articles”) to the scientific and medical community worldwide, for the benefit of patients and health care providers.
By investing in these different topics and projects, we underscore our position not only as the No. 1 stem cell transplant society worldwide, but also as a leading haematology society.
I wish you a very pleasant and fruitful Annual Meeting. I am looking forward to catching-up with you in Istanbul. The hashtag for the Twitter coverage of the meeting is #EBMT15. And in the meantime, please do not forget to follow the EBMT news on Twitter @TheEBMT and @Mohty_EBMT.
