Dear friends and colleagues,
The summer holidays are approaching and after hard work in the first half of this year, many of us are eagerly waiting to start in well-deserved relaxing holidays with our families or friends.
After a successful Annual Meeting in Lisbon, the EBMT Board started their work with new elected and motivated Working Party chairs (Christian Chabannon - CTIWP, Ibrahim Yakoub-Agha - CMWP and Mohamad Mohty - ALWP) to foster and strengthen science and research within the Scientific Council and Board of Association.
The most exciting scientific event will be the expected approval of CAR-T-cell therapies by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) this summer, which certainly broaden our therapeutic armentarium for refractory or relapsed NHL or ALL patients.
Our society has started early the communication process with EMA and requested a qualification opinion of our EBMT registry, in order to collect CAR-T-cell therapies in the registry as a source for regulatory purpose and post-authorisation drug utilization as well as for efficacy and safety studies.
We can be extremely proud after EMA has released their draft qualification opinion on the cellular therapy module of our registry. You can read more about it here and please stay tuned for more information in the next weeks.
Please do not miss the extraordinary online voting in the coming weeks for a new chair for the Paediatrics and Severe Aplastic Anemia Working Parties. The increasing scientific activities of our Working Parties offer a great opportunity to take part in their numerous business meetings and/or educational events, propose and conduct scientific studies. On our new website (www.ebmt.org ) you can learn more about their activities and meeting dates.
Actually, right after the summer holidays, the 3rd International Transplant Course (ITC) will be held in Barcelona from September 7th to9th). The ITC is a midsize educational meeting especially for younger fellows to learn about basics and cutting edge research in stem cell transplantation, immune biology, graft engineering, complications and Cellluar Therapies, and allows to meet the experts, discuss and exchange with colleagues and find new friends. Numerous grants will be available for younger participants. Check out our website: https://www.ebmt.org/events/3rd-ebmt-international-transplant-course
Lastly, since May 25th the new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was enforced and EBMT takes patient data protection very seriously. A new consent form for data registration can be found on our website.
Now, please enjoy this issue of the EBMT Newsletter and some relaxing summer holiday!
